4x4's are designed for rough terrain. In these conditions the chances of finding yourself in a sticky situation become higher to inevitable. This introduces a need for self -recovery. This is just one example of use for a winch on a 4x4. A winch can be used to pull another vehicle or object providing the weight and torque is considered.
